On February 9-10, 2021, there was an official presentation of an international scientific and medical project dedicated to the use of augmented virtual reality (HoloLens 2) in surgical practice. Its author and initiator was Microsoft company. Participants of the project were 13 states: the USA, France, the UK, Germany, UAE, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, and others. Ukraine is also the project’s active participant, represented by the clinic of microsurgery and recovery surgery of the SI “The Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics by the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”.

Within the international program, the clinic of microsurgery and recovery surgery performed several surgical operations of different extent of complexity using the augmented virtual reality glasses HoloLens 2, and one of them (a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty) took place in on-line mode, observed virtually by international medical experts.

The augmented reality technology allows operator’s lenses to display a patient’s diagnostic findings, X-ray or CT images, or, for instance, get a consultation of colleagues, who see in on-line mode the same as the surgeon sees.

We consider that the use of the “augmented reality” technology, especially combined with navigation systems, shall make us possible to make surgical interventions shorter, particularly those demanding the highest precision, facilitate a surgeon’s work, decrease radial loading (of roentgen imaging) on both patient and health professional. At the presentation, there were multiple on-line interviews, round tables, and demonstrations of surgical interventions.
